2017 OFIS Reflections

Attached are the Reflections Documents. Entry forms can be found in the handbook filled out with OFIS specific information. We are encouraging students and parents to reference the rules for each arts category so that the entries meet the contest criteria.  Entry forms are going home this week. The theme is “Within Reach” and the deadline is November 21st at noon.

We encourage all children to participate in this wonderful program.

  • Our FUNdraiser is underway!  Packets should have arrived home with your child on October 13th.  The fundraiser runs til Friday, October 28th.  Visit www.charlestonwrapstore.com to register your student, our school code is z-9292.  This is a very easy way to help your child with sales through email and social media!


  • If you have not done so yet, please add OFIS to your Giant Eagle Advantage card!  Below is the link  https://schools.gianteagle.com/tools.aspx  our school code is #2259.  Funds from Giant Eagle cards help fund our school education needs.  Thank you for helping OFIS!

OFIS PTA Meeting TOMORROW-with special guests FL/ECC PTA!

Hello OFIS PTA Friends,

It seems like the school year is not winding down, but rather WINDING UP! We have only TWO MEETINGS LEFT and so much to accomplish!

This week is special for OFIS PTA as our April meeting will be a combined meeting with Falls-Lenox/ECC PTA this Tuesday, April 19. We will welcome third grade parents to OFIS at 6:00 pm for a tour of the school led by Mr. Svec followed by dinner at 6:30 and our combined meeting with Falls-Lenox/ECC PTA at 7:00 pm.

At this meeting we will vote on the slate of officers for the 2016-2017 school year, as well as share with the incoming OFIS parents all of the great things happening at our school. We will also need to vote on our OFIS PTA Volunteer of the Year. Please take a moment to nominate a deserving volunteer using the attached form. We have so many great helpers who deserve this recognition!

Lastly, we will vote on the proposed Standing Rules revisions. See attached prior to the meeting.

Attached are all of the documents you will need for the meeting. Please print out what you need to help us save on copying and printing costs.  If you are not able to attend please feel free to review the attached to stay “in the know”! The meeting minutes from last month will be available for review at the meeting.

Update from OFIS PTA! So much to talk about!

This month’s OFIS PTA meeting is a combined meeting with FL/ECC PTA. We will welcome current 3rd graders and their parents who want to get a “preview” of OFIS to our building on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:00 pm for the tour, followed by dinner at 6:30 and our combined meeting with FL/ECC PTA at 7:00 pm.
This will be a very “packed” meeting with many agenda items, so I wanted you to all have a chance to review a few things in advance of the meeting.
1. Standing Rules Revisions– The OFIS PTA Standing Rules have not been revised in many years (in fact, since OFIS PTA was still called Fitch PTA!). I have attached the “original” Fitch Standing Rules as well as the proposed “new” Standing Rules for your comparison. I have modeled our Standing Rules on the OFMS PTA Standing Rules to get ours more “up to date”. If you have anything to add or anything to change, please e-mail me any proposed changes by 4/15 so that I can get them out to the masses. We will vote to adopt these Standing Rules at our April meeting.
2. Our Nominating Committee presented the proposed slate of officers for OFIS PTA 2016-2017 at our March meeting. We will vote to elect the slate at the April meeting. The slate is:

3rd VP Ways & Means: Heather Miranda/Jen Prugar

3. Every year, each PTA in Olmsted Falls nominates one person as their “Volunteer of the Year” to recognize those who have contributed their time, energy, and talents to bettering our school and our PTA. Olmsted Falls PTA Council then considers each nominee from the PTA units for the Olmsted Falls PTA “Volunteer of the Year”. All nominees are invited to the PTA Volunteer Celebration and dinner on Thursday, May 19 at 6:00 pm at OFIS. There are so many worthy nominees in OFIS PTA. Will you take a few moments to fill out the attached nomination form? Please e-mail it back to me prior to our meeting and/or bring it to the meeting on 4/19.
4. There are MANY OPPORTUNITIES to get involved this spring. We need volunteers and donations for Staff Appreciation Week (May 16-20), Volunteers and “all hands on deck” for Field Day (May 23-24). We may need additional donations/volunteers for Fifth Grade Luau (May 13). Look for Sign-up Genius requests coming soon or contact Julianne.
5. If you have a student returning to OFIS next year, please consider serving on a PTA committee. There are many openings and lots of fun ways to get involved. You may sign up at our meeting or contact Julianne if you are interested in helping our students and our school next school year.
6. Lastly, please do not let your PTA involvement end with OFIS PTA! If you are “moving on” to the Middle School, please consider giving of your time and talents there. Your kids may say they don’t need you, but our PTA and our school still do. Parent involvement is still very crucial at the Middle School age- our kids may just not want to admit it. Contact outgoing Middle School PTA President Sandra Graham at slgwhit@cox.net if you are able to help next year. I will be there too, so don’t leave me hanging, PTA friends!
